War With Yourself (Of Norway Short Version)

Press info

'War With Yourself' was one of the exclusive tracks on Of Norway and Linnea Dale's collective compilation 'Pets' from 2019. As a teaser for a forthcoming trilogy of EP's here is a shortform of the track.

Introducing some breaks, sci-fi synths and trap-like motifs to the battle, 'War With Yourself' is straight out hot-cake business with its ankle-breaking moves and clever rhythmic interplays.

Released on Beatservice in 2019, the debut collaborative album from longtime collaborators Linnea Dale and Of Norway - real names Vegard Wolf Dyvik and Christian Steenstrup - eventually gets the massive remix treatment it deserved. Split over a trilogy of multi-flavoured EPs, these revisits of some of 'Pets' highlight tracks cast a new light upon the trio's own brand of velveteen, pop-infused joints and bittersweet melodies.

First in line, 'Petit Pets' kicks off the series with a quartet of polyamorous revamps from the hand of Of Norway themselves. The Oslo-based duo gets going with the slo-drip, twilight romanticism of 'Wait For The Morning' - emphasising on an epic bass buildup Trentemøller wouldn't disown, beautifully contrasting with Linnea's suave vocals and brittle melodic lines. Reeling out like fragmentary sequences of a forlorn love flick, the song makes for a perfect balance of club-readiness and mist-shrouded melancholia.

Continuing on the path of pop-splattered electro, Of Norway's reshape of 'High Hopes' makes wise use of its DJ-friendly assets - i.e. no-nonsense, sub-heavy bounce, downtempo languor and a helluva catchy hook sure to have dancers wading in their own sweat. Introducing some breaks, sci-fi synths and trap-like motifs to the battle, 'War With Yourself' is straight out hot-cake business with its ankle-breaking moves and clever rhythmic interplays.

Rounding off the package is the further spacious cover of Joy Division 'Heart & Soul' - a laid-back ballad into badlands that evokes images of great landscapes and peerless contemplation. Blazing to the slow burn of guitar ostinatos and Linnea's feverish incantations, the track closes the journey on a damp, inward-gazing note that would surely make quite the impact in these moments when the skyline's red hot from the sun's last kiss or at the crack of dawn.
