Frugality Inertia

Press info

Beatservice Records are delighted to welcome back Xploding Plastix with their long-awaited release return, 'Frugality Inertia'.

It's been a long time since we heard a new single from Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen, known collectively as Xploding Plastix. The Norwegian duo made an enormous impact on the electronic underground throughout the '00s, bursting onto the scene with their electrifying year 2000 debut 'Treat Me Mean, I Need The Reputation' before delivering a string of impactful follow-ups in the years that followed. Three full albums and countless singles arrived over a busy decade of releasing before the pair turned their attention to scoring music for film, TV and video games. Returning to their loving Beatservice home, Xploding Plastix are back and in scintillating form, serving their first single since 2010's 'Devious Dan'.

Blending organic instrumentation with precise electronic textures, 'Frugality Inertia' builds around an evocative eastern melody. Dramatic synth swells evolve and intertwine as they provide an undulating accompaniment, as scattered rhythms periodically rise to add thrust to the immaculately carved orchestration. Deep and evocative, this is a powerful return to action for this most talented pairing, offering a tantalising taste of the sonic morsels that are sure to follow.

It may have arrived well over a decade since their last single, but 'Frugality Inertia' proves itself to be more than worth the wait. It's with no small measure of satisfaction that we proudly announce: Xploding Plastix are back.

Average Agreeableness

Press info

Xploding Plastix continue their vibrant re-emergence, returning to Beatservice Records with their incredible new single 'Average Agreeableness'.

We were thrilled to welcome back Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen's Xploding Plastix project earlier in the year with their hiatus-breaking 'Frugality Inertia' release. Though the pair may have taken a lengthy break from releasing, their combined skills have been kept laser-sharp thanks to their continuing work composing music for TV, film, and video games. Equipped with an incomparable ability to construct compelling sonic landscapes, their latest material brilliantly builds on the acclaimed work they recorded throughout the '00s — during which time they recorded three sensational studio albums alongside a flurry of impactful singles.

The newest addition to their catalogue sees the duo in effervescent form, playing fast and loose with rhythm and melody as they carve a mesmerising musical journey. Animated, textured, and wildly atmospheric, 'Average Agreeableness' bursts with originality from the outset. Quickfire rhythms power maniacal synth motifs through a thick mist of evocative pads. Improbable melodies intertwine as the beats ebb and flow while brooding bass adds weight to the explosive groove.

Refined, idiosyncratic and profoundly stirring, this is yet more scintillating work from this most inspired production pairing. Xploding Plastix are back with a bang, magnificently picking up where they left off as they continue their unique sonic explorations.

The duo of Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen made a triumphant return to release action with two genuinely breathtaking Beatservice Records singles earlier in the year. We may have had to wait for well over a decade to hear new material Xploding Plastix material while the protagonists immersed themselves in the transportive worlds of film, TV and video game composition, but they've wasted no time picking up where they left off from the groundbreaking releases they scored throughout the '00s with their latest batch of sonic delicacies. Following on from the striking 'Average Agreeableness' number, the pair once again demonstrate their dexterous affinity with rhythm via the spellbinding thrust of 'Optimal Meat To Bread Ratio'.

More Espresso, Less Depresso

Press info

Xploding Plastix are back on Beatservice Records, following on from three hiatus-busting releases with the kinetically-charged grooves of 'More Espresso, Less Depresso'.

Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen have crafted more than their share of memorable moments under their familiar Xploding Plastix moniker since first appearing back in the year 2000. After hitting hard with a series of acclaimed releases through the '00s, their 13-year break from releasing is now a distant memory, thanks to a flurry of majestic studio offerings that have arrived via Beatservice Records in recent months. Following a trio of imaginative spun singles, they're back once again with another scintillating release, aiming directly for gyrating floors with the powerfully propulsive 'More Espresso, Less Depresso'.

As the title suggests, the music is joyously vigorous in tone. Pitched over a fast-paced tempo, the proudly experimental composition blends nimble synth lines over emotion-rich chords and growing synth bass. In keeping with their recent work, the rhythms are breathtaking and the production is typically refined, the duo sculpting a vivid musical universe with their distinct sonic palette and deft compositional approach.

Lively, life-affirming and forcefully dynamic, 'More Espresso, Less Depresso' is yet more incomparably engaging work from Xploding Plastix, the pair making their indelible presence felt with another unmissable release.

Press info

Beatservice Records are thrilled to announce the long-awaited return of Xploding Plastix with their eagerly anticipated album, 'This Is Accurate'.

The Norwegian duo of Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen burst onto the electronic underground back in the year 2000 with their stunning debut single 'Treat Me Mean, I need The Reputation'. Arriving via Beatservice Records, the acclaimed release was followed a year later by 'Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents', the first of three long-players that were each released or re-issued on the imprint. After winning countless admirers with their imaginatively-spun electronica, Xploding Plastix took time away from releasing to focus on scoring music for film, TV, and video games. Their last EP, 'Devious Dan', came as far back as 2010, so we're naturally ecstatic to welcome them back from their extended hiatus.

Predictably, the distinguished artists have kept their production skills extraordinarily sharp during their media-focused endeavours, and the 14 tracks presented on 'This Is Accurate' more than make up for the delay between releases. Expertly blurring stylistic boundaries, the freeform collection is vast in scope and boldly experimental throughout, entirely coherent as the music majestically morphs through genres.

'This Is Accurate' finds the players in an unshakeably adventurous mood, darting between disparate sonic realms with consummate ease from the very first bar. Launching via the mangled atmospherics and abstract vocals of 'Starting Undone' we arrive quickly in the delirious swells of 'Average Agreeableness', where quick-fire rhythms power thick pads and energetic synths across a magnetic arrangement.

Floor-focused dynamism arrives in waves, from the energetic thrust and tension-building crescendo of 'Cheese Paralysis' to the maniacal rhythms and anthemic synths of 'More Espresso, Less Depresso'. Bold and invigorating, the album's livelier moments vividly demonstrate the duo's flair for sparking kinetic charge.

Off-world melodies and alien landscapes permeate the album, with transportive textures bubbling throughout. Blending disorienting leads with alluring harmonics, 'Two Nickels To Rub' masterfully builds tension as fragmented rhythms keep the tempo, while the brooding topography of 'Troubles Brought No Joy To Begin With' plays host to delicately entwined motifs and searing harmonics as it strikes an evocative tone.

Immersive moods cut to the core, with yearning refrains carved over bewitching musical beds as breathtaking sonic landscapes are powerfully evoked. The enchanting melodies of 'The Bike Shed' prove entirely arresting as they drift over scattered drums and bittersweet chords, while the cinematic depth of 'When The Cockroach Lands' demonstrates exactly why the duo's talent for score composition is in such high demand.

Elsewhere, the nimble leads and hyperactive rhythms of 'Optimal Meat To Bread Ratio' provide another subterranean anthem in the making, while Eastern melodies abound via the climactic vigour of 'Frugality Inertia'.

This is genuinely stunning work from Xploding Plastix, a production pairing with a uniquely vivid musical intention that we are beyond delighted to welcome back into the fold. We're certain their return will be greeted with equal enthusiasm by the audiences kept patiently waiting for this fitting return to release action.
